Proceeding Of the International Conference on Seasonal to Decadal Climate Forecast: Bringing International Research Practices into National Meteorological Services during an Era of Climate Change

Download in PDF Format

Ethiopia is one of the mountainous countries that is found in East Africa with multiple
climatic regimes ranging from heavy rains in the southwest to semi-arid deserts in the
southeast and northeast. The eastern half of the country is highly drought prone.
However, the western half of the country is characterized by heavy rains associated
with its high mountains and transient region of both mid-latitude and equatorial
convergence zones. Most parts of the country are dominated by ragged and undulated
topography. The country’s mountainous orientation and extension from equator to
subtropical zones result in diversified climates and distinct seasonality.
